With Valentine’s Day rushing rapidly towards us, let’s see if we can make this day a little better.
Apart from running businesses efficiently, using online software and even green hosting, internet is also helping us run our personal lives in a more efficient way. There are some downsides of course – we use technology way too often, which can hurt our health and existing relationships, but without it there wouldn’t be such a neat 21st-century thing as online dating.
Statistics shows that today, online dating is the second most popular way to meet romantic partners (I just can’t bring myself to use a cringey term ‘soul mates’), and it lost to a very solid competitor – meeting through mutual friends, note researchers at the University of Rochester, who published this illuminating report in Psychological Science in the Public Interest.
“Online dating is definitely a new and much needed twist on relationships,” study co-author Harry Reis, professor of psychology at the university, said in a written statement. Studies in behavioural economics demonstrate that the dating market in Western world is totally inefficient, particularly after school or university, “The Internet holds great promise for helping adults form healthy and supportive romantic partnerships, and those relationships are one of the best predictors of emotional and physical health”.
With the increase in popularity of dating websites, the rules of romance are slowly changing. We don’t only want any boyfriend or girlfriend, we want a best match, one with similar interest in sustainability and care for the planet. After all, who wants to break up because of an argument over whether to recycle milk bottle caps?
There are many reasons to try online dating, here just six of them:
- Dating pool is more local and broad at the same time.
- You can look for a mate anywhere with WiFi
- Use dating site to meet new friends around your area
- No need to spend too much on outfits and drinks at the bar, just swipe the screen
- It offers a chance to chat to a person before meeting them
- The apps will help you find the right people, not just any singles
So whilst you have time try getting on these dating sites:
UK Cupid well the name says it all. Now Brits can get the romance going much quicker by using the site on Android and iPhones. The best part of the app is that you don’t even need to finish your profile completely for the site to offer you a few potential dates – this is the easiest app in the world. It must be.
Good luck this V-Day!
